It was only a bit over a month ago that Lance Armstrong and Robbie McEwen got cyclists’ hearts racing, leading a charity ride through the streets of Brisbane to raise money for the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.
Over 2500 cyclists of different cycling abilities, bicycle choice and lycra preference turned out to ride 25km with seven time Tour De France Winner, Lance Armstrong, and Aussie champ, Robbie McEwen.
Aussie icons were lining up to be involved, with the likes of Premier Anna Bligh, former PM Kevin07, actor (and remarkably good triathlete) Daniel MacPherson, and multiple Tour Down Under winner, Allan Davis, all rocking up for a piece of the action.
The course – meandering across our beloved Story Bridge, out through Bulimba, Morningside and back to the RNA showgrounds – proved a scenic tour for some, but quite a challenge for others.
If nothing else, it was overwhelming to see so many people embracing the bike for a good cause.
Thanks to all of you who took time out of your busy schedules to be part of the ride. Over $125,000 was raised for the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal .
A big shout out to a whopping 120 volunteers who helped with the event, including employees from Rio Tinto, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Queensland Newspapers, CitySmart, Westpac and Pat Carroll Running Group. We owe you one!
