The 2011 Mother’s Day Classic was awarded the Best Charity or Cause-Related Event at the prestigious third annual Australian Event Awards held in Sydney last Thursday night.
Chem is proud to be the event manager of the Gold Coast event, which attracts around 4000 people from the local community.
The 2011 Mother’s Day Classic was selected from hundreds of entries from across Australia to make the list of finalists, and joined other exceptional category winners, including the Australian Open, Sydney Festival and Tropfest 2011.
The 2011 Mother’s Day Classic was recognised for gathering more than 120,000 people in 37 different events across Australia to walk or run for breast cancer research.
Nationally, the Mother’s Day Classic raised a record $3 million for breast cancer research bringing the total raised since inception to $10.8 million and making the event the single biggest donation received by the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
National Chair of the Mother’s Day Classic, Louise Davidson, was delighted to hear of last night’s announcement and paid special tribute to the thousands of volunteers and participants who took part in the nationwide community event.
“This award recognises and acknowledges the incredible work done by volunteers, particularly those from the Women in Super network; volunteers who work tirelessly to raise funds for breast cancer research and awareness among the community,” Louise said.
Kylie Allan, accepting the Award on behalf of the 2011 Mother’s day Classic, said “Women in Super are very proud to be able to fund many innovative research programs through our donations to the National Breast Cancer foundation – research that will improve the detection and treatment of breast cancer and hopefully will lead to a cure.”
The Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic is Australia’s largest national charity event. Events are held in 10 capital cities and 27 regional locations across the country.
Chem is, once again, the event manger of the 2012 Gold Coast Mother’s Day Classic, which will be held on Sunday 13 May at Hollindale Park, Southport.
