Following a visit to Brisbane, 2011 Tour de France winner Cadel Evans has slammed Brisbane drivers as some of the most inconsiderate.

He said despite the strong cycling culture in Brisbane, “some of the drivers were unnecessarily nasty”.

A recent Suncorp survey found that more than one in three drivers has had a near miss with a cyclist, and 6 per cent have collided with a rider.

The survey also showed that about four out of five Brisbane motorists believed roads were dangerous for cyclists.

Bicycle Queensland general manager Ben Wilson said sadly a lot of cyclists have negative experiences on the road.

“It’s not the first time I’ve heard that,” he said. “I’ve heard that about almost every state in Australia.”

But research has also found that 86 per cent of Queensland motorists have reported seeing cyclists breaking the law or riding dangerously.

So we want to know what you think – why is there such a love-hate relationship between cyclists and motorists in Brisbane, and have cycling attitudes improved or declined in our state in recent years?
